This two-day workshop will provide an introduction to Internal Family Systems for psychologists. With a growing evidence base in recent years, IFS is establishing itself as an intervention of choice amongst many therapists with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk hailing it as ‘the treatment method that all clinicians should know to treat clients effectively’. This workshop will address the following:

  • A brief summary of the theoretical underpinnings of the model will be provided

  • The growing evidence base will be outlined

  • The important principles and processes of IFS will be described

  • An outline of the 6 F’s of IFS will be covered

  • The importance of Protector fears will be covered

  • An introduction to conducting Protector interviews will be provided

  • An algorithm for unblending from parts will be introduced

  • The flow of the model will be outlined with a demonstration

  • Participants will have the opportunity to practise the 6 F’s and management of Protector fears

  • The options for therapists seeking IFS training, consultation, and supervision in Australia will be discussed
